I can be a little stuck in my methods, especially when it concerns denims. I’ve been burned by denim shopping one a lot of times (an experience I’m sure is far from special), so when I find a silhouette and brand that works, I stick to it. Naturally I’ve made exceptions, which is how I found wide-leg jeans are far more flattering to my figure than a traditional straight-leg style, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley might have just been encouraged to make another one.
When the supermodel marched in Paris at the end of recently, she used an outfit that can simply be referred to as très chic. It was an all-black, body-hugging ensemble she topped with a light brown leather jacket from Saint Laurent. She finished the look off with a little black clutch and a set of large aviator sunnies; I know we speak about the model-off-duty look typically, but this was providing spy-off-duty, a design I may argue is even sexier.
Breaking down the look, I recognized I enjoyed each private part as much as I did the entire, but the product that stuck out the most were her shockingly stylish bootcut denims.
Madewell Kick Out Full-Length Jeans
Bootcut denims are the Y2K staple I didn’t recognize I required till right now. The design is something I ‘d considered a little too retro due to the somewhat flared leg (which can come off costumey), however Huntingon-Whiteley made me reassess. Her high-waisted jeans had a snug fit through the hips and thighs before broadening ever so somewhat at the calves. It was a subtle but efficient touch that immediately elevated the black denim. Plus, she went with a seriously long set that hid her entire shoe except for the pointed toe (trendy!) and elongated her currently long legs.
And though Huntington-Whiteley might have been the last push of convincing I need to step outside of my jeans comfort zone, she’s far from the first to use the design. Jennifer Aniston is a bootcut follower; she told Allure that though she’s attempted every silhouette under the sun, she ultimately goes back to her reliable low-waisted, bootcut jeans since they’re what works finest for her figure. She’s tested time and time once again that the style looks good with everything: in the ’90s she used them with child tees and extra-large leather coats, while today she opts to match them with more advanced blazers.
